Port Qasim Authority gave out berths 5, 6 & 7 to the private sector, Qasim International Container Terminal (Pakistan) Ltd., to develop & operate as a dedicated container terminal on BOT basis. Accordingly QICT engaged Cullen Grummitt & Roe (CGR) of Australia & Engineering Consultant International (Pvt) Ltd of Pakistan for the design and construction supervision with a view to develop a container terminal.
The facilities planned for the container terminal were very much similar to a Dry Port as follows:
Gate House and Security
Stacking Slots for a variety of cargo like bulk cargo, hazardous cargo, reefers, CFS etc.
Engineering and operation buildings, administration building, inspection yard, custom building, etc. all similar to Dry Port.
The project started in January 1996 and was operative in June 1997. QICT has invited ECIL for the design and supervision of Stage-2 work.
Services
The services included soil investigation, detailed Topo survey, tender documentation, design and construction supervision as follows:
Supervision of soil investigation
Execution of topographic survey
Preparation of tender documents for the renovation of existing buildings
Design & construction supervision of workshop & gate house
Design & construction supervision of power distribution system, both h.t & l.t
Construction supervision crane beams & r.t.g. tracks
