The Government of Kyrgyzstan launched this road improvement project with the assistance of Islamic Development Bank (IDB). It is an existing road (539 km) traversing through plain and hilly areas, crossing 4 major mountains passes en-route. It is a 4 lane facility with asphaltic pavement and treated shoulders on either side. The road is a vital link for the Kyrgyzstan and CIS countries, connecting Bishkek with Pakistan through China and the Karakorum. The scope included feasibility study, detailed design and tender document preparation. A project for improvement of 4-mountain passes was developed initially.
