Project Description
The project road starts at Borovoe (Burabai) junction at 240 km (kilometre count continues from Astana), approximately 10 km north of town of Shychinsk, where the road from Borovoe joins the main alignment. It continues to traverse in the north-west direction up to the town of Kokshetau from where it takes a northern direction till it reaches the city of Petropavlovsk. The road serves as a major link to reach the Russian border and connects to its major economic centre in Omsk Oblast, and connects the cities like Omsk and Kurgan. The end point of the project is at the T-junction at 473 km, where it meets A-342 road connecting to Zhezkazgan, the industrial centre in central Kazakhstan.
The existing road is 2-lane facility along its entire length and can be divided into 3 sections based on historical traffic records available with KazdorNII.
Section - 1: Starts from Borovoe T-junction at 240 km with a 2-lane single carriageway and ends at northern outskirts of Kokchetau, 303 km.
Section - 2: Extends from 303 km to 404 km with a 2-lane single carriageway configuration.
Section - 3: From 404 km to 473 km is 2-lane single carriageway road.
The project alignment traverses through the jurisdiction of two Oblasts (regional entities), namely Akmola and North Kazakhstan. According to the historic traffic records, about 50% of vehicles, are agricultural and heavy commercial vehicles which is a sizable portion by any standards. The existing road needs up-gradation due to increased traffic.
